Lice Treatment with Castor Oil

Castor oil's viscosity lends itself to be an excellent trap for lice and their nits. It is especially effective when Tea Tree essential oil is included, as found in Palm'Hydra Hair & Scalp hot oil treatment. Optimize results by adding more Tea Tree oil (2 droppers full) to this castor oil-green clay blend. The bottle is then placed in a cup of warm water for a few minutes to warm the contents. Apply as needed to the scalp and massage gently yet thoroughly. Cover scalp and hair with a plastic shower cap then wrap a hot, damp towel around the head. Keep in place 30-40 minutes. Repeat 2 days later.

Between treatments and for several days after, shake a few drops of lavender essential oil into the hair and tossle hair with fingers to disperse. Lavender essential oil repels lice and will significantly reduce re-infestation.

When my daughter had head lice I used the castor oil on her hair for the night. In the morning all the lice and nits were dead and just had to be combed out. Plus her hair looked beautiful and no harsh chemicals were used. I tell everyone of this wonderful, safe treatment!

Toxicity Study of Castor Oil

ABSTRACT (extract)
"Toxicity studies with castor oil were performed by incorporating the material at concentrations as high as 10% in diets given to F344/N rats and B6C3F1 mice of both sexes for 13 weeks. ... no significant adverse effects of castor oil administration were noted in these studies."

"Absolute liver weights and liver-to-body-weight ratios
increased in male rats and in both sexes of mice receiving diets that contained the higher concentrations of castor oil. These increases, however, were not accompanied by corresponding histopathologic lesions or alterations in clinical chemical endpoints that would indicate hepatotoxicity. Since castor oil is composed of triacylglycerols, the increased liver weights could be a reflection of elevated metabolic activity associated with increased lipid absorption, rather than a toxic response.
